Founded in 2005, Rouge28 Theatre is an award-winning company of international theatre artists based in London.
We fuse puppetry with different performance genres to produce original and intriguing visual theatre. Our work has been performed in Britain, France, Poland and Greece.
Our work investigates the notions of perception and imagination through a non-verbal dialogue between realistic live-sized puppets and humans. We weave their relationship into a complex theatre narrative that has a strong emotional echo for audiences.
Kwaidan is the latest project produced by the company. It is inspired by Japanese ghost stories and horror movies. It has been described by Total Theatre as ‘a classic in the puppetry mystery horror genre’.
This autumn, Kwaidan will be on tour across Britain as well as in Denmark, Poland and Greece. Full details can be found on our page “Rouge28 on Tour”.
We will organise a post-show event about Ghosts in Japan on Friday 20 October after our performance at Greenwich Theatre with speakers from the School of Oriental and African Studies.
Aya Nakamura will be running workshops in Bath, Oxford and London, teaching the unique puppetry technique developed by Rouge28 Theatre.
The workshop in London will take place on Saturday 30 September and will be opened to anyone interested in puppetry. If you want to participate, please contact us via our website.
We have received funding from Arts Council England, Japan Foundation, Great-Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Japan Society to organise this national and international tour, the post-show event and the workshops.
